A toothache can be a real annoyance. It is usually important to come and see us so we can make sure it’s not a symptom of something more serious. Until you can come to Dr. Polley’s office, there are some things you can do to try and relieve the pain and discomfort.

The first step is to make sure your mouth is clean. Rinse your mouth with warm water and carefully use floss to remove any food particles wedged in between your teeth.

Next, take an over the counter pain pill. Don’t put an aspirin against your gums. It won’t alleviate the pain any faster and may burn your gum tissue.

You can put a cold compress to the outside of your mouth to help reduce swelling and relieve some pain.  Also, you can get an over the counter pain relief gel that contains benzocaine, such as Orajel, and apply it to the area to temporarily relieve pain.

The most important thing to do is call us so that Dr. Polley can take a look at your tooth, especially if the pain persists. A toothache could be a sign of an infection or TMJ, so it is important that you come and see us.

Dr. Polley’s cosmetic dental office is committed to providing quality dental care to all our patients. Call us today and schedule your appointment!
