If the tooth in question happens to be in the back of your mouth and isn’t bothering you much (right now), you might want to let it be. However, this isn’t the best practice. Besides being unsightly and painful, there is another important reason to fix your broken teeth. Without damaged teeth, you’ll have far less risk of other teeth breaking, hurting your cheeks or tongue on the sharp edges, gum disease, and tooth decay.

Keeping good oral hygiene means ensuring that you get your damaged teeth fixed. You can prevent a whole host of other problems and save some money by stopping the damage in its tracks before it worsens. Keep reading to find out how to fix broken teeth.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers or porcelain veneers are a popular tooth repair treatment for small chips, wear, and cracks. They are wafer-thin sheets of porcelain that attach to the front of your natural tooth. Many people wonder about the durability of porcelain veneers, but you don’t have to. They’re made of highly durable ceramic material specially made for you and your smile.

As a bonus, porcelain veneers look fantastic. They’re often known as a one-procedure “smile makeover” when you get a whole mouth of veneers. They’ll hide imperfections other than damage, such as crookedness, small teeth, gapped teeth, misshapen teeth, and stained teeth.

Your treatment in Las Vegas will take two appointments. At the first appointment, your cosmetic dentist will shave off a small portion of your enamel to make room for the veneers. This ensures that they don’t feel bulky in your mouth. Next, we’ll take digital images and send them to the lab where your custom veneers are created. While you wait for your new teeth, you’ll wear temporary veneers to protect your teeth and keep them looking great. We’ll call you back into the office when your new teeth arrive and permanently attach your new veneers.

*Note: Porcelain veneers are permanent because we have to shave a small portion of your enamel off.

Dental Crowns

Another option to fix your broken tooth is a dental crown. These fix more significant damage, like a crack or break exposing your tooth’s root. A crown or sometimes called a “cap,” is a ceramic material that fits over your entire tooth, from the biting surface to your gumline on all sides. It protects your tooth from further damage, bacteria, and food particles. You won’t feel any pain with a crown, and you can consider your tooth good as new.

At the office of James B. Polley, you can have your permanent crown placed in one appointment. Due to CEREC, we can provide you with same-day restorations that are custom-fitted to your tooth and match the color of your smile. Our very own Dr. Polley crafts all CEREC restorations. With the same doctor diagnosing your damage and creating the crown, you can be sure that your crown will be pristine.

Dental Implants

Sometimes, a tooth is damaged beyond repair. In that instance, the best option is the replace the damaged tooth with a dental implant. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that we surgically attach to your jawbone and top with a dental crown. Your implant will look and act just like a natural tooth—your friends and family won’t even be able to tell the difference.

Dental implants are superior to other tooth replacement options because they mimic your entire tooth’s function, not just the visible part. Believe it or not, your tooth root has an important job, more than just keeping your tooth in place. Your natural tooth root stimulates your jawbone and focuses the biting force onto your jaw instead of your gums (like dentures). Your jawbone is similar to a muscle in the way that it gets smaller without use. Without stimulation, cells begin to replace slower and slower until you lose jawbone density, and in turn, the structure of your face.

Getting a dental implant takes one day plus several months of healing. After consultation with your Las Vegas cosmetic dentist, you’ll have surgery to place the implant. Your implant will take anywhere from four to six months to fully heal. But don’t worry, you won’t have to walk around with a post sticking out of your gum. You’ll get a temporary crown or, if possible, your permanent crown placed that day.
