Our CEREC system allows us to make dental crowns and other restorations for you in a single visit, so that you can leave our office with a final restoration and won’t have to wear a temporary crown or other restoration. And these restorations are as good–or better than–other kinds of restorations.
Comparing Performance with CEREC Restorations
Although you may not have heard of CEREC and it seems like a futuristic technology, it’s actually been around for a long time, and it has more than a 20-year history of clinical trials and studies. CEREC restorations have been compared to lab-made restorations and other types, and show that CEREC restorations compare favorably for reconstructive dentistry.
In a study of CEREC-made porcelain veneers, the survival rate was about 94% over 9 years, and 98.8% of patients were satisfied with their results.
CEREC-made dental crowns had a 97% survival rate over 4 years in another study.
And for inlays and onlays, forms of tooth-colored fillings, CEREC performs even better. A study of seven types of fillings over 15 years, CEREC fillings had the lowest failure rate. Here are the failure rates they found:
Glass ionomer fillings (7.7%)
Metal amalgam fillings (3.3%)
Composite fillings (2.2%)
Composite inlays and onlays (2.0%)
Lab-made ceramic inlays and onlays (1.6%)
Gold inlays and onlays (1.2%)
CEREC inlays and onlays (1.1%)
This outstanding performance shows that CEREC materials are as good as, or better than, the other restorative options out there.
What Makes CEREC Restorations Better
And in addition to their outstanding performance, it’s hard to argue with their convenience. Your restorations can be made the same day, which means no temporaries–so no risk of temporary crown failure–and no need for a second visit to get your crown placed.
CEREC also uses digital impressions, so there’s no need to bite down into a mold, which can be uncomfortable and unpleasant.
